US-based Netflix has announced it is adding Dolby Digital Plus surround sound to movies on its instant streaming service. The improved sound quality will be available first on Sony’s PlayStation 3 and will roll out to other devices “over time”. The retailer’s online streaming service is available to subscribers who pay USD8. 99 a month or more and is available on videogame consoles, computers and mobile devices including Apple’s iPad.
“Netflix required an audio solution that could efficiently deliver an outstanding surround sound experience for a wide range of consumer devices,” Greg Peters, Netflix’s Vice President of Product Development, said. “Dolby Digital Plus proved to be the best solution to meet our needs and the needs of our device partners. ”
PS3 owners also will be able to watch “some movies and TV shows” in 1080-pixel high definition without inserting a Netflix disc into the device, Peters said in a post on Sony’s PlayStation blog.
Netflix recently announced that the company reached a deal to rent Sony movies 28 days after they go on sale, while NCR, which rents DVDs at nearly 7,000 Blockbuster kiosks, reached a similar deal with Universal Studios. NCR said it reached a studio distribution deal with General Electric Co’s Universal, also agreeing to wait 28 days after the Universal movies go on sale.
A spokesman for NCR said it was working with many studios for further such deals as it ramps up the Blockbuster kiosks to compete with Coinstar’s Redbox kiosks and Netflix. Studios are seeking deals requiring Redbox and Netflix to wait 28 days after a DVD or Blu-ray disc is released because they fear these low cost outlets will threaten sales. Sources familiar with the matter said that News Corp’s Twentieth Century Fox and Sony were among the studios talking with NCR.
Netflix has been in business for quite sometime now. You probably were their customer and enjoyed their superb service. Netflix has been surprising me ever since I signed up with them. One after another, they have been introducing really cool services. For only $9. 99 per month, now you can download unlimited movies in your TV. It’s a new technology developed by Netflix, and no other company is offering this service. The best part is, you can watch any movie at any time with Netflix. The movies are downloaded instantly, so you no longer have to wait for them to arrive. For only $99 USD, all you need is a converter box called Roku.
For no additional cost you can also purchase your own Network Blu-ray player through which movies are streamed at no additional cost. You can manage all the movies through your TV or online. Through your remote control you can watch a movie in less than 20 seconds, rate it, fast forward and much more.
If you own a XBOX 360, then you are in luck. Because you can stream movies with it as well! You do need a XBOX Live Gold Membership to enjoy Netflix Unlimited Plan. For only $9. 99 a month it doesn’t get any better than this. Netflix’s Roku is already available. So, you can get started right now if you don’t have your own player. Netflix is still testing the Blu-ray Players and XBOX service, and they will be offering that service from September.
You can watch movies directly or order them to arrive by mail. After comparing Netflix with many other services, I have to say, they give you quite a lot of feature for the amount of money they charge.
Netflix has invested online movie watching experience with new meanings and has been reining the niche, outdoing every competitor since its insipience in 1997. It has quite deservedly been the darling of millions therefore. However, lately some upgrades and modifications in the world of netflix downloads have triggered speculation on the decreasing efficiency of its services. While there are still others who vouch for the high-standard services passed on by the pioneer online rental video service. To dispel all those confusions then, here is an honest consumer review from somebody who has been subscribed with netflix since 10 years now and has been closely examining the happenings:
Getting Quick Service Is Easy
Netflix video rental service isn’t a favorite with millions for nothing! The quick doorstep delivery service that the company pioneered in providing the consumers with, radically changed the way watching online movies was perceived. The company places strict insistence on “single-day delivery” and I would say that it actually lives up to it. However there have been some users who have faced problems on this front and complain of not getting deliveries on time. In my opinion, things are being goofed up at the consumer’s end then. In most cases that I studied closely, either there was a delay made by the renter in returning the DVD or another peculiar error persisted- most of them got their deliveries from a far-off mailing address and made the mistake of mailing back the DVD’s in the same envelope. So the DVD’s would reach netflix late because they did not mail them back to their local distribution centre. The lag occurs for no fault of the company then because unless they get the previous shipments back, dispatching new ones is out of question. What you could do then is retain some envelopes with your local distribution centre’s address as the returning address on them as buffer (a good way to do this is to mail two DVD’s in a single envelope) for using them later in such situations.
Getting the Most Out of Your Netflix Subscription
Let’s Face It- Throttling Does Happen
While netflix would decline any indulgence into throttling or smoothing, the truth is that it does happen. As per the company policy of “unlimited rentals” one must be allowed to rent as many DVD’s as one can possibly watch and return timely. But this does not seem to happen in practice and there have been instances of filtering heavy renters by the company’s automated accounts. The shipments to these renters are delayed purposely as that translates into profits for the company. While I am not advocating netflix’s stand, as long as one can limit the number of movies rented to a moderate figure there should be no major problems. And again, looking at the cost-effective and all-inclusive services that it offers; this count can surely be compromised upon.
Netflix practically invented the online movies niche and with its committed approach towards delivering quality services for consumer-satisfaction, it surely deserves its due. Minor glitches and drawbacks do exist in every niche and I am surely mindful handling could eliminate a huge chunk of them. On the whole, I would give thumbs up to this wonderful service.
have recently bought a new brand Samsung BD-P3600 and i am having the problem when i access an internet from it. Actually pandora works without any problem but when i tried to open up netflix, youtube or blockbuster then it did not worked. I have connected this to my Samsung 6000 LED-LCD TV and it shows movie. Re: BD-P3600 Crashes when trying YouTube, Netflix, & BlockbusterIt is much annoying problem you are facing on your TV via blue ray player using an internet connection. Can you tell me what kind of connection you are using to connect it with the TV. Is your TV is a HD set? What video output settings you have set in the menu of your blu ray player. Actually any of this could be causing the problem in your case. Re: BD-P3600 Crashes when trying YouTube, Netflix, & BlockbusterThere could be an issue of internet connection as it can happen if your internet connection does not provides the enough speed to connect the netflix or any other things on your TV through the blu ray player. I have seen this kind of issues on many blu ray players and every time i have found that there was not support or not enough support from an internet connection. Re: BD-P3600 Crashes when trying YouTube, Netflix, & BlockbusterI think it should be the firmware of your blu ray player as it happens several time that the firmware does not supports for the updated things for the blu ray players. I suggest you to update the firmware of your Samsung BD-P3600 which might solve your problem. And make sure that it is a firmware issue only as you would not be able to downgrade the firmware once you haveupgraded it. Re: BD-P3600 Crashes when trying YouTube, Netflix, & BlockbusterAs you said that the pandora works fine with your blu ray player then i do not think that there should be any issue with an internet connection but i have a simple and straight solution which will surely solves your problem. As you have bought this player just before some time then you must contact with the dealer from where you have bought this player and make them checking all the connections that you have made with your TV. Whatever could be the problem behind this but it should be handled by them as your player not much older and should be under warranty period. Re: BD-P3600 Crashes when trying YouTube, Netflix, & BlockbusterI would like to ask you that you are using a wireless connection or a wired connection to connect your BD player with an internet. As it might happen that the wireless connection would be getting disturbed because of some program in your room’s surroundings. have you tried it after rebooting it or reinstalling all the things as new product must not face these king of problems. Re: BD-P3600 Crashes when trying YouTube, Netflix, & BlockbusterI think there should be some wrong settings for an internet connection on your blu ray player. I have seen somewhat similar kind of issue on my friends blu ray player. Check that what has been selected in the Network settings of your player, It should be selected as “BD-LIVE Internet Connection:” to “Allow All”.
was using the PS3 in my living room with the HDMI cable and was able to use Netflix perfectly on it but now PS3 has been replaced by the blueray BD-c6900. Problem begins when i try to use Netflix on this player as it audio is out of synchronizing with the video and as movie goes on playing further, It gets more worse. If i pause it or stop it then it seems to be resync again which solves this problem for some time. Re: Audio sync issues with Netflix streaming on BD-C6900There should be a problem with the HDMI cable which you are using with the BD-c6900 on your Television. I suggest you to change the HDMI cable and check that whether your problem gets solved or not. It might happen that there would be some different HDMI cable asked by your TV or a blue ray player. Re: Audio sync issues with Netflix streaming on BD-C6900There must be some problem in the Disc itself which would not be having proper synchronizing of audio with that of the video. This should be something problem with the disc. I think you should try some more Discs on your player and check whether it is happening for all the CDs or not. Re: Audio sync issues with Netflix streaming on BD-C6900Actually it could be the problem with an internet connection. When you stream movies/videos from an internet then video takes but more time then that of the audio files. So if your internet connection does not replies inconsistently then this kind of issue can persist on your BD player. Check that your internet connection is responding the enough speed or not. Re: Audio sync issues with Netflix streaming on BD-C6900I agree that the synchronizing of an audio with the videos can go wrong while streaming the videos from your Blue Ray Disc Player. But what if it is happening while playing the discs from the player as well then there could be problem regarding the BD player. If there are any problem in your Blue Ray Player then all you can do is resetting your player and nothing else. Re: Audio sync issues with Netflix streaming on BD-C6900I have faced the same problem on my Blue Ray player as it can stream the videos from the computer system and it plays well from the disc also but when i try to stream the videos from the Netfilx then they keep on lagging according to the videos. But how could it work perfectly for the youtube as i have streamedmany videos from youtube and never seen any this kind of problems. If it would be internet issue then even youtube should have lagged while streaming.
This is often the conflict consumers are left with when determining which way to rent and watch DVDs. Blockbuster is mostly recognized for having thousands of retail stores throughout the country and Netflix is an online DVD rental house. Blockbuster actually has joined the game of online DVD rental and now the two are in fierce competition to gain subscribers to each of their online DVD rental programs. So which one is better? Well, there is no real answer to this but your preferences. Each is covered and the benefits are listed to make the choice easier.
Netflix is the oldest online DVD rental service and is the most recognized. Blockbuster is a bit newer and has a lot of the same features as Netflix. Each offers DVDs deliver to your door in one to two days. Shipping is free and there are no late fees. This a monthly charge as a subscription. The movie watching is unlimited with almost all plans. Cost differs on how many DVDs the plan allows at one time.
Blockbuster has two advantages. The first is the number of plans offered. There are a total of eleven different plans for consumers to choose from. This makes it customizable to the consumer’s movie watching habits. The second unique selling point for Blockbuster is the use of their thousands of locations in their online DVD rental program. Blockbuster offers in-store exchanges of DVDs. This is something Netflix could never offer since the lack of infrastructure.
Netflix has two advantages as well. The first is the selection. They are well above their competition offering over 100,000 titles. Blockbuster has over 80,000 titles, but Netflix takes it the next level in selection. The second is the ability to stream content direct to your computer. Netflix offers over 20,000 different titles ready to be stream any time you want. This is the equivalent of Blockbuster’s in-store exchanges. `It allows consumers to fill that need for something different than what was received in the mail.
To choose goes beyond these two advantages from each. The decision of how each meets your needs is the prime factor. If watching on programming your computer is not the preferred method of entertainment then in-store exchanges could help you make up your mind. If never having to leave your home for your entertainment then Netflix could meet your needs. Compare each and see what will work best for you.
Netflix in the past few months has begun allowing users to watch Netflix movies online or stream them. Although this may sound like a great Idea there are a few negatives I want to go through as Wildblue Satellite is not recommended. The Netflix movies online streaming service started a short time ago (a few months to a year). Customers calling to Activate Wildblue and deciding not because of Netflix movies limitations are denying themselves a High Speed Internet option because of a fairly new service. The intenet itself has been around for years and your limitations online now because of dial up are the real reason you are behind on the times. When one calls to get rid of dialup internet for satellite high speed internet to allow them to use Netflix I feel they are doing things a little backwards. “Hi I am paying money for an obsolete service and I would like to pay more money to a movie rental company so I can watch ( basically on demand ) . . . . Oh it’s not recommended for Netflix well nevermind ‘I’ll keep my dial up and continue to accomplish absolutely nothing online”Here are some tips for those of you who refuse to let go of dialup intenet until you can succesfully Stream a Netflix Video. Your going to pay to use Netflix . . . at 10 dollars a month why wouldnt you for an extra 15 . 00 (24. 99) access over 120 channels on Dish Network? If you are still using dial up odds are you have not stayed up to date on your computers hardware or software . . . So far, only Internet Explorer is supported to stream Netflix Movies, and only on Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista. Support for other platforms is on the way, but I don’t know what or when. . . NO Apples No Ipods No MACs . . . No windows XP service Pack 1. . . Allready confused. . . . this is the point I am trying to make. The Netflix movies allowed for streaming are old, out of date, not in HD, . . . Old Dogs, Futurama, 2012, Wallace and Grommit, and Care Bears are some of the NEW releases to Netflix streaming movies. . . Nothing more than you expect to find in a clearance DVD bin at Wal-Mart. You would have a better selection with any basic on demand service or. . . You can still do Netflix by Mail !!!. Yes Redbox is much much cheaper, but if you live forty miles away from civilization Netflix was intended for Mail Purposes . . . They only started the streaming service to offer another revenue stream to its shareholders, but to customers there is little benefit. Netflix was intended for Mail and is the best option. You can get HD, you can get Blu-Ray, You can watch movies 30 days after their DVD release. And with a Hi-Speed internet connection through Wildblue you can actually go online to Netflix, review Netflix movies, selct the Netflix movie you want to watch order it and have it at your doorstep with 1 day. This is not something your are able to do with Dial Up. By: Francis David
Like many others watching movies is my first hobby. I enjoy watching movies than any other thing. Here I am sharing my experience with two topmost movie providers – Vongo and Netflix. I have tried many online movie download services and DVD rental services, but sooner or later, all of them proved to be a piece of junk. Now I have subscribed only two unlimited movie providers – Vongo and Netflix.
I personally like Vongo among these two movie services. The main reason is because of its unlimited movie download service, picture and sound quality. Also like Netflix DVD rentals, you don’t have to wait for your favourite movies to be shipped at your home. There is always some postal delay which I hate.
Vongo has following features because of which I like it most:Excellent Movie Database: The Movie Database is Huge and they also keep adding 100′s of new movies every week. 14 Days Free trial: When I joined Vongo, I was pretty firm that I am going to cancel it within 10 days of my subscription, and I did it too as decided, but within just few days we realized that Vongo was a part of our life and we started missing all those great online movies. Later we joined it back. By the way, I also want to mention that if you want to cancel Vongo movie download and watch service, its very easy to cancel. They don’t ask any questions during cancellation. Easy To Use: They provide a very nice and easy to use free software through which you can select movies of your choice, watch their previews, and then start downloading them.
Picture and Sound quality of movies is perfect and I feel its much better than DVD print quality. Fast Download Speed: You can download as many movies as you want, all in parallel. You can also start watching a movie when its download is in progress.
I would recommend that you should definitely try 14 days trial version of Vongo and am sure that like me and my family, you will also start loving this movie downloads service.
Visit following like to learn more about the features provided by Vongo where Netflix lacks. Continue reading at this link: Vongo Movies – Download & Watch Unlimited Movies Of High Picture & Sound Quality

Online movie rental services are the way of the future. While many still roam the local movie mart, whether blockbuster or otherwise, many are switching to the conveniences of online DVD rental service. Simply order a DVD online, and with the click of a button your movie is queued in for delivery. No late fees, and competitive prices between the two companies make it a great time to sign up. So, which DVD rental service is the best?
Netflix was the company that really started this trend, and so a good look must be given to them. The Netflix service was so popular, that Blockbuster considered it a big threat and launched the Blockbuster online DVD rental service in response. Netflix offers over 55,000 titles, nearly 5,000 more than their competitor, and has about the same turn-around time, for now. I would like to point out the impossibility of finding their phone number online, they expect you to go through their online FAQ’s first, whereas Blockbuster has “contact us” tab that makes it easy to contact them. That aside, Netflix has a reputable name built up from the speed, and quality of their service. So can Blockbuster stop the march of this DVD rental service behemoth?
The answer is yes. While Netflix may have “gotten there first”, Blockbuster has and plans to remain a store-driven service. In this way, Blockbuster has a huge advantage over Netflix, and knows how to manage their customer service team. Blockbuster has plans in the immediate future to begin using their stores as distribution points, which means delivery could be extremely quick, and make their stores a possible drop off point for the online DVD rental service. While priced about the same, Blockbuster gives free in-store rentals. This is very important to me personally, as it allows me to grab the new release I’ve wanted immediately for free and then put the older classics on the backburner.
Between the two, it’s so neck-and-neck that the Blockbuster free rentals are the deal breaker for me. I’d go with Netflix only if you really don’t care about free in-store rentals. Otherwise they are mostly the same price, the same speed, and consumer appreciation is about equal for both DVD rental services. I’m not sure if Netflix just hopes their customers won’t notice, but Netflix should take a price dive if they expect customers to pass up the free monthly in-store DVD rentals from Blockbuster.
