This is a blog about life (mine) which is in fact largely uneventful, but very satisfying for me, or as Shakespeare wrote so well, “a bad thing, but mine.” J ‘ have plans to give the skeleton of the day, week, etc. My daily experiences with (I hope) comments. Why should I do that? I guess because I can!

December 2010 Christmas is here in all its brilliance and the emotion and, unfortunately, all of your extra stress. Although there is always something wonderful for us to anticipate all – family, friends, surprises, good food, there are still many times of stress and anxiety. The trick is to maximize pleasure and minimize anxiety. Through careful planning and wise decisions that we can do much for the whole family can expect to wait this year to have a great holiday.

The midterm elections have come and gone and are Now with an electorate that chose to go in a different direction for the next two years. Is a direction we’ve tried with disastrous results, unfortunately – tax cuts for the rich and cut costs by eliminating the safety net in the middle class and poor. I expect a difficult fight in Congress between these competing philosophies – between those who attempt to implement this direction and try to stop them. The end result is that for the next two years will probably not be able to move the country toward greater prosperity and job creation. I hope I’m wrong in the assessment and the new Congress will somehow try to find common ground in which the opposing parties will be able to find a basis for the commitment that we hope will benefit all.

I recently saw a movie based on a true story “The Stoning of Soraya M. “is the story of a woman in Iran in 1986 was convicted of having sex with someone who was not her husband. She was accused by her husband, who just wanted get rid of it. Despite his innocence, was sentenced for his people and was then stoned to death. The film vividly depicts the brutal stoning, and for those of us who like to think we live by just laws, it is especially shocking to see this behavior unusually violent and primitive is still practiced in this century

Unfortunately, as I write this, a woman, new Ashiani Sakineh Mahammad was accused of adultery and sentenced to stoning in Iran. Due to international pressure, Iran has stopped the stoning and although it is now scheduled to be hanged, has committed to review your case. His son (who says that he is not guilty) and his lawyer have been jailed for bringing to his aid. The world looks back and put pressure on Iran to give this woman a fairer trial and the release of his son and his lawyer. We hope the international attention the case in Iran will bring positive results.

Love Is Time & Space Free Love is not time bound and space bound. It is very well demonstrated in this movie same love was demonstrated by Krishna and Meera. Love is border free, time free and space free. 11. Importance Of One Word In Communication If communication dies, everything dies. Each word has impact and value in communication. One word if used wrongly or emphasized wrongly or paused at a wrong place in communication what effect it creates and how is it affected is demonstrated very well in this movie. 12. Mediocrity Is Penalized Middle class family or average talent or average institute is going to suffer and has to pay maximum price in the life if they do not upgrade their living standards. To be born poor or as an average person is not a crime but to die as an average person with middle class talent is miserable and if you are unable to optimize your potentiality and die with unused potentiality then that is your shameful truth. One should not die as a mediocre. He/she has to bring out genius inside him/her and has to use his/her potentiality to the optimum level.

If you have never heard of Neuro-linguistic programming or NLP, let me be the first to introduce you. I know neuro-linguistic programming sounds like something way over your head that psychologists and psychiatrists practice, but you would be wrong on both counts. Most head doctors do not practice NLP and it is not that difficult to understand. Let us break it down: Neuro = brain, linguistic = language, and programming. Brain language programming is what makes you feel the way feel. The best way I can explain it is music. Why do you always see athletes listening to their iPod before they compete? Why do love songs make you feel romantic? Music can put you into any emotional state. So odds are you have already used NLP on yourself unconsciously. NLP is what Anthony Robbins used to jumpstart his career. He would call into talk radio shows and claim he could cure anyone’s phobia right there on the spot. This eventually led to psychologists and psychiatrists calling in and challenging him. Robbins would cure phobias of people who were in counseling for most their lives in 20 minutes. And I am not talking about your run of the mill”I’m afraid of snakes” guy. No, I am talking about people whose phobias affected their everyday lives, the kind of people who are afraid to even leave their house. One method I use for fear is the movie theatre trick. The next time you find yourself in a situation that you are absolutely terrified of, pretend you are the hero in a movie. Snakes, public speaking, heights, whatever the fear may be put yourself into a scene in your movie where you are saving the day. So far so good, right? Now, pretend you are in the theatre watching that hero on screen. This will force you to look the situation differently. Instead of focusing on what frightens you, you will focus on the climax of the movie and riding into the sunset victoriously. If you want to take it a step further, pretend you are in the projection booth watching yourself watch the movie starring you. Just remember that thousands of people with fears probably more severe than yours have used tricks like this to cure themselves. Now you can too. I mentioned earlier how music influences our emotional state. One thing I recommend is to have a few go to songs that you can play on your iPod or MP3 player to put you in the right state of mind no matter what your current outside stimulus is. A break up, you get fired, fail a class, anytime you are feeling down you can play these songs to get you back to a peak state. While the song is playing ask yourself “Will this matter in five years? Five months? Five weeks? Five hours?” It probably won’t. One of my favorite songs to listen to at these times is the SNL digital short I’m on a Boat. This song is not only has an upbeat tempo and positive sounding lyrics, but it also makes me laugh a little every time I listen, so it does a great job of evening me out. If you want to learn more about NLP check out Anthony Robbins’ book Awaken the Giant Within. If you want to go even further read NLP for Dummies. And if you really want to become a master of your domain get Creating Lasting Change by Anthony Robbins. All three are more than adequate to understand how NLP works and they can explain it a lot better than I can. I found the two books at a Publication1 library on campus too, so that might not be a bad place to check to save a few dollars.

What makes trends cutting edge and unique are the ways they are reinvented or portrayed, with the special touches that blend the trend of yesterday with the latest and greatest of today. What is reinvented doesn’t have to be decades old; in fact, it may only be a few years before improvements are made. Established brands can still succeed and have influence, as long as they can adapt to change, stay on top of trends, and continue to search for the next big thing.

Google Wave – With Wave, Google has changed the way many internet users perceive e-mail. Though many of us are still figuring out how to use the innovative collaboration tool to its fullest, it’s clear enough to see that, when opened to the general public, Wave might replace personal e-mails.

Because Wave is so revolutionary, Google will have to bridge the gap between the early adopters and late majority, who are typically less tech-savvy.   No more back and forth replies, or multiple e-mails from the same person. We’ll have an entire record of our conversations, track changes, and avoid clogged inboxes. With this, Google has essentially reinvented communication and e-mail.

Kindle – Ten years ago, the thought of reading an e-book would have sounded preposterous. Now, it doesn’t seem that out of the ordinary. Amazon’s Kindle device has reinvented how we read books. With other retailers getting in on the trend and debuting their own electronic reading devices, it’s clear that the Kindle is not a fad, and is here to stay. Though many scoff at the thought of seeing books replaced by a battery-operated device, millions of others don’t seem to think so.

Consumers have made it clear that they’ve taken control of what’s popular and what isn’t. Companies who can listen to customers and continually improve upon their products and services will be able to see the windows of opportunity first. Even the craziest of ideas just may work – it never hurts to think outside the box.

Taking something common and making it interesting is the ultimate way to succeed in the reinvention trend. Designers have done it with jeans – making them more than just a basic part of our wardrobe, turning them into works of art, and changing the role they play in fashion. . .

What is positive self talk? Well, we all practise self talk, though, many of us tend to go for negative self talk instead of the positive approach. Negative self talk can be very detrimental to how you perceive yourself and the people around you. For example say that there is a particular person that you find attractive, but that little negative voice in your head says, “No way am I in that person’s league, she/he is too good for me. ” So yet again your negative self talk as persuaded you that you are not worthy of knowing. Another scenario could have been “Hey I like her/him and I am going to ask her/him out to the movies. ” Now the latter scenario was of course positive self talk and that is what you should be practising to build up your self-esteem.

A good way of being aware on how you are perceiving yourself is by analyzing your self talk. What are you saying to yourself? Is it positive or negative? If your internal voice is being negative, write the negative thoughts down and scrutinize them – do you believe these words or are you being hard on yourself? If you catch yourself having negative internal thoughts say to yourself -”STOP YOUR NEGATIVE SELF-TALK!”

Remember I am not saying that you feign that you are faultless, but what I am saying is do not be hard on yourself. It is too easy to have negative thoughts about yourself then it is to have positive thoughts. Do not have false modesty. If you are good at something admit it. It’s not being big headed to admit that you are a talented individual. Just look at all the famous people out there. Do you think that Arnold Schwarzenegger thought he was talent less? He went out into the big scary world and made himself into Mr Universe. He then became an actor and then the governor of California. Not bad for a man who was born in a little Austrian village. He believed in himself.

Below are some exercises in positive self talk to programme your mind to gain self-confidence in yourself:

1. Imagine what your internal voice sounds like when it is absolutely confident. Is your confident internal voice louder or softer? Is your confident internal voice clearer and easier to hear? Is it stronger or weaker. Does your internal voice speak faster or slower. Always be aware on how your confident internal voice sounds as you will always want to use it in the future.

2. Recall all the negative suggestions you planted into your psyche in the past:

4. Now with your new confident internal voice repeat above positive suggestions to yourself.

Now with these positive self talk suggestions go out into the big world and be that confident and positive person you always dreamed of! Remember you are the only person driving your bus so only you can change your life for the better!

 

 

 

 

If you are like most business people, you have probably been sent an invitation to a site called LinkedIn. Then, if you are like the majority of us, we delete the link thinking, “Oh no not another site that I have to sign-up on. ” So, you are probably reading this right now, going yep. . . that is me. Why should I register on the site, normally sites like that just send me junk and fill my inbox with worthless email?

I can tell you from firsthand experience, there are plenty of sites out there that want you to register and then send you spam 50 times a week. LinkedIn is not one of them. LinkedIn is a powerful networking site, creeping up on popular social networks like MySpace and Facebook. The benefit about LinkedIn is that it is entirely business focused. So, are you interested yet?

What Can LinkedIn Do for Me?

I have been asked the above question more times than I can probably count. My answer to everyone is always, “LinkedIn is a great way to find people. We all go through life never really knowing everything about our work colleagues (sometimes even our friends). LinkedIn has allowed me to read someone’s business history in a single screen. The site also helps me understand who they know and network with. ”

Some interesting facts you probably did not know about LinkedIn:

* The average number of LinkedIn connections for people who work at Google is forty-seven. * The average number for Harvard Business School grads is fifty-eight, so you could skip the MBA, work at Google, and probably get most of the connections you need. Later, you can hire Harvard MBAs to prepare your income taxes. * People with more than twenty connections are thirty-four times more likely to be approached with a job opportunity than people with less than five. * All 500 of the Fortune 500 are represented in LinkedIn. Top Reasons to Use LinkedIn

1. Building your Reputation. LinkedIn is a great tool for people to outline their experience, accomplishment, organizations and network. Too often I have seen incomplete profiles. A crucial element to get LinkedIn to work for you is to make sure your profile is 100% complete. Include all your previous employers, groups you belong to, your “advertisement”, websites and other important information. LinkedIn is also becoming a place where employers find candidates, so if you are job hunting, this may be the place for you.

2. Find Qualified Candidates. Ever struggled looking for an employee? If you are like me, it is a love hate relationship. I want to find the best candidate because it will benefit the company, but weeding through all the applicants can be exhausting. Well, how about using your network to find employees? For my last two positions, I hired individuals that came recommended, yes I said recommended, from my network on LinkedIn. LinkedIn has a great job posting board, which is also very inexpensive. Even if you don’t want to field unknown candidates, you can send out an email to all your connections.

3. Find New Connections. Have you ever felt like sometimes you see the same people at the networking events? Would you like to meet new people? Use LinkedIn and do a search. For example, let’s say I want to meet Architects. I just go to LinkedIn and type in Architects in the search box. LinkedIn will search my contact’s contacts and return the results. The best part is it shows me how I am connected to the person, which can then be used for introductions. I ask Joe Smith to introduce me to his friend the Architect. LinkedIn also provides results of what they call 3rd degree friends. Essentially, your contact has a contact that knows the architect. It seems complicated, but it is a great way to expand your network and your friend’s network. Try a search, see what happens. LinkedIn also has introductions, a tool they offer to give you an introduction to a person you want to meet.

4. Increase your Google Ranking. Ever wondered how people’s names come up so high up on Google searches? I do not have the secret Google formula, but I can tell you a well written LinkedIn profile earns a high rank on the page. The not so lucky are the people with common names, like Joe Smith, but, the more you have information like LinkedIn (or Blog articles), the better your Google ranking.

5. Make your meeting go smoother. I was once introduced to a contact who knew all about me before I ever met him. He even went on to tell me who we knew in common. . . . talk about ice breaker. All he did was search for me on LinkedIn and viola. . . . all my history and information. I have to admit, from a bird’s eye perspective it sounds a bit creepy, but sitting in the meeting it was not. I was actually relieved to have something in common with the person. He, of course, told me he had viewed my LinkedIn profile, which took all the creepiness away. I thought after that meeting, what a great way to learn about someone, search for them on LinkedIn.

6. Ask for or Give Advice. In the question and answer section of LinkedIn, users can post questions and answer questions. For example, if you are a computer hardware expert, you would scroll through and try to answer questions relating to your specialty. What does this do? Well, it builds your credibility as an expert in your field. On the other hand, have a question you want some peer advice on? Ask the LinkedIn users. I have scrolled through the Answers section many times and I am always pleased with the responses I have read, always very professional.

7. Scope out Competition, Customers, Partners. I, like most people, use Google or another search engine to see what information I can find out about my market. The market includes your customers, competitors and partners. LinkedIn is a great tool for research. I especially like it because you can usually see where a person worked previous to their current position. Knowing that information provides a much more in-depth picture about the person or company. Another key advantage is to see what groups your customers or potential customers belong to.

8. Groups. LinkedIn just added a new tool to search groups. The groups range from networking groups to Alumni groups to Company groups. Groups can be a great tool for networking. For instance, I am a member of the Alumni group where I went to college. The group is quite large, but I can search within the group for prospective clients, partners or competitors. I use the group as a common thread when trying to talk to or meet with people. For example, “Joe I see that you are a member of XYZ Alumni group, so am I, what did you study?” There are many different ways to use the groups and their members as leads into conversations. As a plus, when you join a group you can show the group on your profile. The benefit could be others see the group and find they have a common thread with you.

9. Recommendations. LinkedIn has created a system where your contacts can recommend you. I think it is a wonderful tool. Now, when I am searching for a product or service or even a new connection, I can read what other people have to say. I know and you know, we can talk about how great we are till we are blue in the face, but when someone else confirms it. . . . . . you may have struck gold. Leverage the power of LinkedIn to get recommendations and be sure to give them as well.

10. Help Others. The saying is Give and You Shall Receive. Use LinkedIn to introduce people you think would be a good match. You can easily do introductions to the people with LinkedIn’s inMail. The nice thing about giving a contact more connections on LinkedIn is that no one wants to be the person with the least contacts. . . . so help out a friend and send them a contact or two that makes sense for them. Part of helping others can be helping them use LinkedIn. Most of the people I have met have done very little research on how to use LinkedIn to its full potential.

11. Use it on the go. LinkedIn is configured to be able to use it on your handheld device. While you waiting at the airport, doctor’s office or another waiting area, log into LinkedIn and network from anywhere. Just go to linkedin. com.

On a more serious note, you can find gadgets that have to do with the news. These are some of the more common gadgets on both websites and blogs.
When people come to your Blogger blog they can see a gadgets that shows the local weather, breaking news, tropical storm warnings and even traffic reports in major cities. These are great gadgets to add if your blog is targeted to a local audience.
